The season coming up to Christmas and the Holidays is usually a time of joy and preparation. This year because of Covid-19 and an unprecedented election year, it feels exhausting and dangerous. But this year’s struggle has not been equally felt. The costliest burden is once again carried by our neighbors and friends on the margins, with less means and no insurance. They are the ones who have suffered the most. The health and financial crisis caused by Covid-19 has significantly affected ECM and our already vulnerable International District community.

Summer 2020: ECM & the pandemic
Fear of the Covid-19 pandemic. A toxic political atmosphere. The Black Lives Matter protests calling out systemic injustices. Together we are in a season of massive societal disruption that is painful and uncertain. Common Good Information

The ministry is available for all people from the community. It does not matter whether you are rich, poor, or religious. I understand that their services have been created to help the poor, but they invite all walks of life to join them.

—observation from a UNM student

What I saw [at ECM] was simply an encouraging example of some people who are striving to ‘follow Jesus in the Real World.’  That means reading your local context in such a way as to identify real and pressing needs, building relationships, and working with people to make the community a better place.
